Trending Hairstyles for Men

Your hair is one of the very first things people notice about you. It’s important to get your style just right if you want to make a good impression. If you’re searching for new men’s hairstyles that match your vibe, here are our favorite looks for the modern era.

Undercut

When you think of an undercut, you might be picturing buzzed sides, but this can refer to a range of different lengths. It just means the hair on top of your head is longer than the hair around the sides.

A longer sides undercut will look more like a classic men’s cut. This style is timeless and perfect for any hair texture. A buzzed undercut or undercut fade is the younger, modern version of the undercut, giving you a little more edge.

Faux Hawk

If you like a more daring look but don’t want to cross the line all the way into mohawk territory, the faux hawk may be for you. It features shorter sides and a longer top like the undercut mentioned above. The faux hawk is shaped forward and up, like a mohawk, but shorter and thicker.

It’s a great way to add a little edginess to your style. However, keep in mind that the faux hawk may require more upkeep in the morning, as it needs to be shaped with styling gel or pomade.

Afro/Natural

Lately there has been more emphasis on allowing your natural hair texture to do its thing. This means voluminous natural afros are in style. With the right products to nourish, moisturize, and shape your locks, an afro may be even easier to manage than dreadlocks or braids.

Natural Curls (all lengths)

Gone are the days of straightening your hair or wrangling it into submission. Curly hairstyles for men are finally getting the appreciation they deserve again!

80s men’s hairstyles, in particular, are making a swift comeback. We’ve even seen the younger generations proudly sporting perms and curly mullets.

While we don’t expect everyone to get in on those trends, there are less daring dos you can try. Whether you want a short, medium, or long curly hairstyle, keeping your curls defined and fluffy with the right products will allow your natural texture to shine.

Slicked Back Waves

If you’re lucky enough to have natural thick waves, slicking them back away from your face with gel or pomades will create a clean look that’s somehow both classic and modern. Don’t worry if not all your locks stay put—a few messy strands hanging in front of your face is part of the charm.

Trending Beard Styles

Even if you’ve found a style or two that works for your face shape, we all get curious about what our beard can do from time to time. Here are some of our favorite popular styles we recommend experimenting with.

The Full Beard

Thick, full beards are the number one way to enhance your masculine features. And the good news is that the lumberjack and rugged mountain man looks have really never gone out of style. So go ahead and free the beard to unleash your inner Viking!

Stubble

If you’re the kind of man who needs to shave once a day to stay clean shaven, maybe it’s time to give yourself a break and try growing out your stubble in between shaves. A nice five o’clock shadow can do wonders for highlighting your jaw and shading beneath your cheekbones.

Getting a break between shaves also gives your skin time to breathe and heal from any nicks, sensitivity, or irritation. It can also help reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.

Short Jaw-Shaping Beard

If you’re willing to go just a step beyond stubble, a shorter beard will take your jaw shaping to the next level, extending your chin slightly and creating more shadow beneath your jaw.

Keeping your short beard trimmed up neatly and your neck shaved will help you avoid looking scraggly or unkempt and will help maintain a professional appearance.

Corporate, Boxed, or Faded Beard

In the world of men’s grooming, there’s jaw shaping, and then there’s jaw sculpting. There’s no better way to create a chiseled look than with a corporate, boxed, or faded beard.

These involve precise shaving to create a very clean look with straight lines and sharp features. Depending on the style and your own unique beard pattern, you can either create a clean and corporate or edgy effect.

Goatee

If you want some coverage on your jaw but don’t want to commit to a full beard, a jaw-shaping goatee is the next best option. There are many different styles of goatee, but you may be limited by your unique beard pattern.

However, many of these styles are great for men who struggle with patchiness around their cheeks and jawline but have fuller growth around their mouth. A goatee also serves to lengthen the chin.

Trending Mustache Styles

If you have a strong jawline, it’s time to show it off with a classic moustache. In recent years, moustaches have been coming back into style, and everyone from Henry Cavill, to The Weeknd, to Johnny Depp is jumping on board.

The Chevron Moustache

The most popular style has sometimes been called the Chevron, or the Painter’s Brush—think Tom Selleck. The 80s are coming back into style with the classic full-furred upper lip and a head full of curly locks. There’s no better way to give off a commanding and manly vibe.

The Handlebar Moustache

Now this one is a real throwback. Nowadays, the handlebar moustache is more popular with a full or long beard—or even a small patch of hair beneath the lower lip to form a goatee—instead of being worn on its own.

In fact, we’re willing to bet that you’ve seen a few of the barbers at your own men’s grooming lounge sporting this exact look. It will certainly help you stand out in the crowd with distinguished hipster energy.

We hope this article has been informative and given you some direction for taking your style to the next level. Let us know which of these you’re going to try out first!
